Anson was a farmer in Lyme, New Hampshire. His first wife was Lydia Dodge (c1817 - bef. 1850). They had 5 children: William (1835), Nathan (1837), David (1839), Harrison (1840) and Edward (1842).

 Anson served almost 2 years during the Civil War. He enlisted 22 August 1862 (at the age of 44 ) as a Private in Co. H, 11th New Hampshire Infantry Regiment. On 19 March 1864, he transferred to Co. K, 23rd Regiment RC, from which unit he received a disability discharge on 17 May 1864 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Carroll served in the U.S. Navy during World War I, aborad the USS Maine. After the war, he worked on a collier (coal-carrier) ship, the Isaac T. Mann, hauling coal between Delaware and New Orleans. In later years, he worked as a woodsman in the Bethel area.

Leona graduated from Maine School of Commerce in 1925. For a while, she worked as a secreatray in Buffalo, New York. In 1960, she retired from Rumford Community Hospital, where she had worked as a Certified Nurses' Aide for 6 years.
